Victorians are friendly, you'll always get a 'g'day', and Melbourne public transport is a joy to behold. Vast networks of busses, trams and trains, criss-cross the city and follow routes to the furthest reaches of Melbourne, and travellers can buy a pass that covers all modes for a couple of hours, or a day. Then you can forget the car and go pretty well anywhere. Melbourne is built on a large plain that surrounds Port Phillip Bay and the only boundary is the Dandenong Mountains, yes, well we call things like that 'HILLS' here in Tassie! The point is that walking is always an option that is pleasant, in fact many shortcuts through extensive parks and gardens connect many major centres and suburban transport services to residential areas.
